The Yin-Yang theory of aging
The genes that you inherit from your parents are the master code for your health and longevity, and they usually do not change over your lifetime. However, the activity or expression of the genes is constantly altered by many non-genetic, also known as environmental, factors inside and outside of your body. These non-genetic factors are modifiable and you are in control of them. There are many modifiable factors that affect how you age: what you eat and drink, how much and when you eat, how much you exercise, how much and how well you sleep, how much stress you experience, whether you are exposed to pollution, radiation, UV rays, toxins, infections and many other environmental risks. These factors have a huge impact on your health, but you are in control of them and your healthspan.
When the Yin and Yang forces are in perfect balance and harmony, the cells and body function well. This is the state that we all should try to stay at for as long as possible. As we age, the Yin and Yang forces become increasingly imbalanced and disharmonious, resulting in increasingly more suboptimal health issues (subhealth), which predispose us to more serious diseases and ultimately death when some systems are totally broken down. Fortunately, the health states are reversible early on until it is too late.
Interplay between genes and modifiable factors: the epigenome & beyond
All biological processes are determined by the interplay between the genes and the modifiable factors. The interplay results in epigenetic changes, e.g. DNA methylation patterns, which control the turn-on and turn-off of gene expression, the production of mRNA that is used as templates to make proteins. The epigenetic modification is an important force in aging and life in general, but the actions are usually carried out by downstream molecules such as proteins, metabolites, lipids and glycans. While it is almost impossible to fully understand the complex interplay, the dynamic changes can be monitored using biomarkers that provide meaningful signals about your current and future health.

AgingSOS® testing methodologies.
How to read the AgingSOS® report?
W-Index® is a summary score of your overall wellness.
The overall health is summarized by our wellness index (W-Index®). The calculation of W-Index® is based on our proprietary formula derived from our database on healthy and unhealthy subjects. The best W-Index® score is 100 points and deductions are made with abnormal findings based on the degree of abnormality. A person with a W-Index® of 55 points or less usually has several severe subhealth and likely major diseases.
It should be noted that the W-Index® is calculated based on the tested biomarkers and may be significantly modified by other health information such as the diagnosis of diseases or biomarkers that are not measured with the AgingSOS® Starter panel. It is important that you verify the health information that you provided to us during the activation of your test kit.
The determination of individual biomarker reference ranges as well as the W-Index® is based on our current knowledge about these biomarkers and is an evolving process as data continue to accumulate. When significant improvement occurs, your report will be updated on our website.
The proprietary W-Index® and the individual biomarkers provide insights about:
- Your overall wellness status
- Your risk of future health issues
- Effectiveness of your longevity protocol
- Actionable data to extend healthspan
- Actionable data for better management of existing health conditions
Many middle-aged and senior people, some young adolescents and even young children do have abnormalities that can be revealed by the AgingSOS® biomarkers. Many of us take nutritional supplements with the hope to improve health, reduce risks for illness, and increase longevity. However, no one knows what each person really needs the most and whether the supplements are effective. AgingSOS® helps you identify the abnormalities that you need to act upon the most. The biomarkers are actionable, meaning you can take concrete steps now to strengthen your weakest links. These actions include lifestyle changes such as more exercise, more sleep, diet, and biomarker-guided supplementation of nutrients that you cannot get enough from your regular foods. AgingSOS® allows you to assess the progress you are going to make by retaking the test after concrete actions have been taken. Initiation of actions is a great first step towards your health and longevity, while monitoring your progress or lack of progress by retaking the test on a regular interval is even more critical for your long-term health and your longevity. We will recommend the most appropriate time interval for you to retake the test based on your biomarker profile.
